New Game in Development - Unlimited Barrage

Game Development - Unlimited Barrage

Your Fists Are Righteous. Your Enemies Endless. In lieu of my experience with creating Shadow Possession, I've decided to continue the momentum and create another game, called Unlimited Barrage. This time, the deadline will be a month. The theme for the game will be "Beat-Em-Up", which essentially means the game will be able beating stuff up in entertaining ways. The fighting mechanics will revolve around combos, including unlocking new combos and equipping the combos you want to customize the "Bad Ass's" fighting style (Bad Ass may be pushing it, but he's got a pompadour, so that fits my requirements). Wait, wait...

New Game - Shadow Possession

Game Development - Shadow Possession

New game! Recently, I took part in the weekend game jam "Ludum Dare 25". The theme this time around was, "You are the villain." My take one the theme was to center the game around a strange little shadow/ghost type creature that possesses a Gentleman in a top hat, and has to progress by avoiding light. You can check out the game here: . Take note that this is the post-comp update I did. I took an extra day or two after the Jam was over to update the game with proper sounds and a few tweaks. You can view the original via the link on the page, or here. Also, after I entered SP into the Jam competition, I did a little Post-Mortem. What's Next? I'm really happy with my choice to take part in LD25.

Tips/Tutorials - Creating a Custom Exporter for DAME

Misc - Tips/Tutorials

After stumbling on a relevant forum post on the subject of how to get sprite information from DAME into an exported class you can use, I thought it might be helpful for someone out there if I took the time to go into detail on how you can manipulate DAME's custom exporters to your benefit. For those of you unaware, DAME, quite simply, is an open-source 2D map editor. It works really well with Flash/Flixel/Flashpunk in particular, but I'm sure it could be implemented in most types of 2D game development. What makes DAME so handy is that you can export the levels you build into various formats (.

SETI: First Contact (Pre-Alpha) - Development Update 3

Game Development - SETI: First Contact

Introduction, and "The Quest for the Fabled Artist of Legend" As my recently started "Quest for the Fabled Artist of Legend" continues, it dawned on me that I should post an update on where I currently am in SETI's development. By the way, I'm currently looking for a talented 2D Pixel Artist to work with, so follow that link if you're interested. Or this one. Also, if you like to peruse Reddit, feel free to up-vote my Reddit link here(Scratch that. The search is over! *9/14/2012*). Any help to get more exposure to my "Help Wanted" ad is appreciated, as that means a greater chance to find the right person to work with.

RPG Fever 1 - The Relics of Old

Miscellaneous Banter

In the last two weeks or so I've caught a so-called "RPG bug". I've been revisiting a great many of old RPG games with a keen eye of observation of the game and myself as I play it (it's research, I swear!). I've always been a fan of RPG games (since the beginning of my long track record of playing games). One of the very first RPGs I ever played was one I rented for the Sega Genesis - Shining Force. Technically an S-RPG (Strategy Role-playing Game), I found myself absorbed in the interesting gameplay and story.

Small Update - XML Files, Psychonauts, and Jeff(Who Lives at Home)

Miscellaneous Banter

As the last day of the month of July, I thought it fitting to do a short little update post on where I'm at currently. XML For SETI, I've simplified the way the game builds levels, and how door data is created and maintained between levels, through the use of XML files. For those of you unaware, XML is a markup language that allows you to create your own "tags" to define data. Something as simple as: 1_2 Those tags can be named whatever you want them to be, and you can assign whatever attributes you want to (within some limits).

The Effect a Save System Can Have on Gameplay

Game Design

In lieu of my conversion over to a new save system, a possibility has presented itself for how I can change the save system further. Currently, there are a maximum of three possible saves, represented by the three boxes in the new game/load menu. Since I can now create saves under specific folders, I had the idea to change this current setup into a more complex one. Instead of three saves, I could create three profiles, still represented by these boxes. The most recent save in that profile would have it's data displayed on the box, then if the player chooses to "click" on the box, a smaller little window would open up with the multiple saves stored in that profile.
